“The Tracing Shanawdithit Archaeological Project is examining the route taken by the three or four Beothuk in their quest for basic sustenance. The archaeological search for evidence of a small group of impoverished people travelling over extensive wilderness constitutes the proverbial needle in a haystack”
~ Laurie McLean
Two archaeological field seasons conducted by this project have greatly enhanced our understanding of Beothuk life and older human occupations in the Badger Bay region. Consulting Archaeologist Laurie McLean provides a summary of the work done in 2023 by a group of archaeologists (McLean, Moulton, Strictland and Roberts).
Read about their findings in his report.
